On the back of a record-smashing season opener, Esperance hosted the Goldfields Zone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service annual Zone Championships at its Fire Brigade track on March 14.
The championships were held with depleted teams but the competition was keen and in a show of true community spirit, each brigade eagerly assisted the other to make up numbers where required.
Esperance took out the overall competition win on home turf with a narrow victory of 38 points from South Kalgoorlie with 37 points.
The competition was close with the leading position changing throughout the day with Esperance scoring the winning time in the last event.
Champion Fireman was Dan Lawson from South Kalgoorlie with 11 points.
Tyler Fissioli from Esperance came in second with six points and three other members tied for third place earning four points each.
Coaches Harry Moir and Brian Willoughby said they were delighted with the results and the team's performance across the event.
The brigades will now prepare for the Annual Easter State Volunteer Fire Brigade Championships set to be held in Fremantle on April 11 and 12.
However, unfolding coronavirus concerns could place the competition in jeopardy and updates will be made closer to the event.
