A collection drive to fight period poverty will be held in March.

Women's charity 'Share the Dignity' is calling on the community to donate unopened pads, tampons, period underwear or menstrual cups to women and teenaged girls in need.

Three local 'Sheros' are bringing the initiative to Esperance, installing bright pink collection bins across town from March 1 to 31.

Share the Dignity WA activities and schools coordinator Trish Robinson said all donations were provided to local charities to distribute to women facing domestic violence, financial hardships or homelessness.

"Too many women and teenaged girls in our community suffer from period poverty and there are a number of things that contribute to that," she said.

It is really easy while you are at the shops to buy a packet for you and a packet for her and we will ensure the girls in your local community will actually receive the product that you donate."

Esperance's 2019 'In the Bag' collection drive saw 115 bags filled with essential items donated and distributed to local charities.

Ms Robinson said bags were donated from across the region, including a delivery from Hopetoun.

Donations for the March drive can be made at Woolworths, BBQs galore, TNT Fitness, Naturally Esperance, Castletown Chemist and Bob & Jim's General Store.
