Esperance Bay Yacht Club has a new national champion in talented sailor Ella Coxall.

Sailing Rush in Port Lincoln South Australia over the New Year's break at the 43rd National 125 Australian Championships, Ella and Ryan Sherburn from the South Perth Yacht Club won all nine heats, a very rare achievement.

It had been a positive build up for Ella over the last few years, winning state junior titles and the Junior National title last year in Brisbane, sailing with younger brother Merrick in Shake 'n Bake.

Merrick also won this year's Junior title, this time alongside younger sister Raila. They finished 7th overall.

Esperance Bay Yacht Club had the largest representation at the Regatta, with five boats and have been rewarded for continued involvement by hosting the 44th Australian Championships right here in Esperance from December 28, 2020 to January 3, 2021.

It is estimated that up to 40 boats will attend this Regatta, so it will be quite the spectacle in the bay - hopefully with a new jetty to view from.
