Australia Post's 'Great Aussie Coin Hunt' reached Esperance today, October 14.

The ground-breaking partnership with the Royal Australian Mint showcases Australian culture and history with A to Z Australian-themed $1 coins.

The coins start with A for Australia Post and include F for footy, I for Iced VoVo, M for meat pie, S for Surf Life Saving and X for the small town of Xantippe. The last coin on the hunt is Z for Zooper Dooper.

New coins are being released each Monday until October 21.

Post Offices throughout Australia are giving the $1 collectible coins in their change.

Esperance Post Office postal services officer Hayley Revell said the local team was very pleased to have the Great Aussie Coin Hunt van stop in Esperance.

"There's been a lot of anticipation building among our staff about the visit," he said.

"It gives residents, of all ages a great opportunity to come together and have some fun while learning about the origin of each of the icons celebrated on each coin."

Australia Post Executive general manager Nicole Sheffield said Australians had a proud tradition of collecting items.

"Not only will it be really exciting to hunt for all the coins and build an amazing collection, but each and every coin opens up the opportunity for wonderful conversations about quintessential Australian life," she said.

"It's a great way for grandparents to connect with grandchildren, and for all of us to share our own experiences and memories with each other, both here and with friends and family overseas."
