Esperance family day care educator tops region

An Esperance educator has been named a regional winner in the 2019 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards after more than 20 years in childcare.
Roslyn Humbles from Sunnyside Family Day Care of Wanslea Family Day Care, was one of 11 winners in the state, topping the Kalgoorlie, Goldfields and Esperance region.
Mrs Humbles said she was surprised by the news but proud to receive the recognition.
"I suppose it shows that parents respect and value what you do," she said.
"But it's two-ways, it's not only about them valuing and respecting what I do for their kids, but I value and respect their contributions as well.
"I just love kids, they're all different and they all bring something special to it."
Over 5,000 family day care educators were nominated in Family Day Care Australia's awards with Mrs Humbles now in the running to be a finalist for National Educator of the Year.
Mrs Humbles said it was the love of her kids and their families, not awards, that keeps her dedicated to the field.
"It would be overwhelming to be recognised," she said.
"I just do my thing. I'm just a behind the scenes person, just do it quietly and achieve a lot that way."
Mrs Humbles said it was the out of the box approach and family environment that drew her to family day care.
"There's a place for everyone in the day care system, some kids suit a long day care centre and some kids suit smaller groups," she said.
"They need a circle of security in the home and in every environment they go into, once they've got that they can achieve everything."
National finalists for Family Day Care Educator of the Year will be announced on October 14 and the winner will be crowned in Hobart on November 23.
