It's our favourite time of the week, a chance to reflect on the changes in Esperance, the faces and the fun that was being had 10 years ago this week.

Making headlines in September of 2009, the Express took a look at two special women who had their passion for fire-fighting recognised after being named as finalists in the WA Firefighting Awards.

Esperance Fire and Rescue Service member Lonica Collins, 17, was nominated as a finalist for the Youth Achievement Award, while Norseman Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service captain, Debbie Epis, was nominated as a finalist for the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service of WA Award.

ESPERANCE Teen Challenge graduate Jodie McGill announced plans to skydive from 10,000 feet to raise money for a pre-and post rehabilitation program to help others overcome drug addiction.

Mallee emerged victorious in the 2009 Netball Grand Final.
