It's our favourite time of the week, a chance to reflect on the changes in Esperance, the faces and the fun that was being had 10 years ago this week.

Making headlines in September of 2009 were concerns the state government would fail to advance a critical upgrade of the Esperance Ports Sea and Land.

It was revealed, during a Parliamentary Committee hearing, that no decision had been made on the $100 million Stage 2 Esperance Port upgrade.

The upgrade would have seen systems put in place to ensure all areas were sealed to prevent nickel concentrate dust emissions.

Then-Shadow Transport Minister Ken Travers expressed concerns that the Barnett Government would continue to export nickel through Esperance without the necessary improvements to safety for the community and workers
