Residents are being reminded to enrol to vote and ensure their details are up-to-date ahead of the local government elections in October, 2019.
Residents and property owners in the Shire of Esperance will have until close of business on Friday, August 30, to update their details and ensure they meet the necessary criteria to vote.
There could be as many as five places up for grabs on the Shire of Esperance council in October, with more than half of the elected members nearing the end of their terms, including Shire president Victoria Brown, deputy president Natalie Bowman and councillors Lara McIntyre, John Parsons, and Ron Padgurskis.
The Esperance Express understands that at least one of those councillors, councillor Natalie Bowman, plans to stand again.
Nominations for the council are expected to open on Thursday, September 5, and close on Thursday, September 12, before the local government election is held on Saturday, October 19.
It will be the first time that the state government's new mandatory training laws for election candidates and councillors are in effect, with candidates expected to undertake an online induction prior to nominating and complete training modules following the election.
