A local rider represented the Esperance Cycling Club with pride at the 2019 WA State Junior Road and ITT Championships.

Fifteen-year-old Adam Maccan finished ninth out of 16 racers in the Under 17s road race and eighth in the Individual Time Trial on August 3 .

The road race was a tough contest. The competition was split into 16 and 15-year-old groups.

Adam was the last of the 15s to get dropped from the front group.

He ended up in the second group on the road and was left in a group of three for the last few laps.

He stood up for the sprint, but suffered from cramps.

Adam rode an amazing race, did a lot of work in his group and was closing in on the front group for some time.

The group cut the gap from about 90 seconds to about 30 seconds, before the cluster lost a few riders.

Adam's training is continuing, with the goal to reach the podium in the next age group in 2020.
