Its our favourite time of the week a chance to reflect on the changes in Esperance, the faces and the fun that was being had 10 years ago this week.

Making headlines in May of 2009, local businesses and residents continue to oppose the development of a McDonalds on Dempster Street.

The state government allocated almost $40 million to major infrastructure upgrades at the Esperance Port.

The allocation was slammed by shadow transport minister Ken Travers, who said that the state government had promised $100 million worth of upgrades to the Port over two years.

More than 30 members of the Esperance tourism industry attended a forum which revealed that an average of 103,500 tourists visited Esperance annually - providing a $55 million boost to the local economy.

The federal government announced it would consider including parts of the Recherche Archipelago in a network of new marine protected areas.
