Bob & Jim's General Store has taken out the Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry's customer service of the month award for April.

The store was nominated for providing a wide variety of fresh local produce and for having done a great job of its recent rebranding.

Store owner Anna Stewart said she was thrilled with having received the award and that it was nice to know customers genuinely enjoyed the store.

Mrs Stewart took on the business almost three years ago after seeing a gap in the market for a small community store that would stock fresh local produce.

"It was something that we'd wanted to do for quite some time, I saw a need there, and it came up for sale," she said.

"I love food and cooking and we stock a variety of products that I used to struggle to find here myself.

"There is quite a strong food community in town and I knew there were people that felt the same way.

"It's branched out from there and now we take on product requests and we do also try to stock the smaller producers.

"There is a lot of community support and that's what keeps us going all year round."

After two years under new ownership, Mrs Stewart said the business opted to rebrand late last year to put its own mark on the store - which has been running for more than 40 years.

"The rebranding was more so about putting our own spin on the shop," she said.

"It's been going for some 40 years and I think that in itself shows that the Esperance community will support a local store.

"It's nice to know that people genuinely enjoy coming in here.

"That's certainly something that we all notice as staff.

"When people come to shop here, they're genuinely happy.

"People come in here because they want that connection with the person behind the checkout."

Anything & Everything Esperance owner Tania Lowe also received a nomination for the monthly award for her great customer service and range of products that promote Esperance.

As a recipient of the monthly award, Mrs Stewart will now go into the running to win the Chamber's Customer Service of the Year Award.

Customers who wish to nominate an employee for exceptional customer service are encouraged to forward their full name and business to
