Keen observers at 2019 ANZAC Day services will notice a difference in the tank stationed outside the Esperance RSL.

The decommissioned Leopard AS1 tank has been in Esperance since 2011, after 30 years of service.

Esperance RSL member George Starcevich said the RSL observed, at a recent meeting, the vehicle was looking "shabby".

Mr Starcevich approached Dennis Hartman who has volunteered his time to put a fresh coat of camouflage paint on the vehicle and clean off the rust.

Mr Hartman said the tank's proximity to the ocean had caused rust.

He said he repaired the vehicle to help the RSL and to thank the diggers for the freedoms we have.

Mr Starcevich thanked Mr Hartman on behalf of the RSL, saying he was "a great Esperance guy".
