They say you can't keep a good man down and after suffering the ignominy of taking off the Tommy only one week earlier, Ken Hocking dug deep into his bag of golfing experience to bounce back and claim the winners prize at last weeks Pink Lake Golf Club Scroungers event.
With B E Stearne as Corporate Sponsor for the day, players had to contend with a gusty north easterly wind which many consider to be the trickiest direction for the course but Hocking was able to rediscover the form that has made him the most consistent performer in the club in recent years when he knocked out 35 points.
His recent poor form is an unusual aberration and possibly a side effect of the nicotine deprivation therapy he is currently undergoing but something he will overcome.
In second place Chas "the bridesmaid" Brodie-Hall fell just one point short when he finished with 34 points and continued his recent run of better form. Cliff Spencer rounded out the winners when he claimed the best veteran title with b34 points. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the days scores was recorded by Steven Daly-Poyner who claimed the Tommy with his miserable tally.
Other prize winners were visitor Andrew Macfarlane (3), Cliff Spencer (2), Alan Read, Mike Anderson and Chris Stokes with both Stokes and Hocking claiming birdie balls for their on Par 3 holes.
Next weeks event will be the May Monthly Medal event sponsored by The Freightlines Group and with at long last some decent rains watering the fairways and the greens already in tip top condition, the course should quickly recover to enhance the golfing experience for all players.
Hit off as usual from midday.
