Brigade's thriller finals win

The Esperance Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service competition team pulled off a thrilling win at the 116th Annual Volunteer Fire Brigade State Championships in Fremantle on March 30-31.

After gaining second place in the first event of the 23 event program on Saturday - the prestigious Discipline Drill - the Brigade went on to win the C Class section with 29 points over Roleystone with 26 points and Bunbury with 13 points.

The open section was won by Harvey with 68 points from Mandurah with 67 points.

TK. Kippen from Coolgardie took out the Best Performing Female competitor award.

C. Moore from Brunswick Junction took out the C Class Champion Fireman award.

R. Landwier from Harvey took out the Open Class Champion Fireman Award.

Over the two days, the competition was very close in both the Open class and the C Class with the C Class Dry Work aggregate 2nd place being shared between five teams.

Esperance won the C Class by winning the last event of the day with a new State Record of 17.17secs in the Wet Hose Double Disc event.

Esperance Brigade coach Brian Willoughby said it was a thrilling completion to two days of competition and a deserving win.

Esperance coach Harry Moir and captain Geof Close were also ecstatic with the win from the young team and said they had an exciting future ahead of them.
