Cannery Arts Centre to host WA's Finest Volume 2

Esperance will host some of the state’s finest musicians this weekend at the Cannery Arts Centre as part of the second instalment of the WA’S Finest Series.

WAM regional award nominees Kris Nelson and Tanya Ransom will perform alongside local musicians John Ratcliff and Laura Petrie at the Cannery this Saturday evening, March 16, from 6pm.

The unique series, the first of its kind for WA, has seen WA Music regional award nominees including Blue Child Collective and local three-piece Grand Casual perform live for the Esperance community alongside some of the town's best local acts.

The announcement was made by local musician and series project manager Kyron Smithson, who said he first explored the idea at the WA Music Awards ceremony in November, 2018.

Mr Smithson said the first event had been a great success and the involvement of local acts had had a positive impact.

“I believe that this is the result of this really steady build we’ve had over the last five or six years in the local music scene that has really allowed a series of this kind to be held, be successful and well-attended," he said.

“The local musicians just keep improving each time they perform and I strongly believe that having them on lineups with musicians that are working at that high level will have a positive impact.”

With the support of local sponsors Dudley Newton Optometrists, Elders Insurance and Roger Ellett at Elpha, a series of music workshops are being offered at no charge and allowed organisers to subsidise part of the live event.

The workshop, open to those of all ages and skill levels, will be held at the Cannery Arts Centre from 2pm until 3.30pm.
