The team at Aurelia's Ice Creamery and Cafe have been received this month's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Customer Service Award.
The idea to establish the business was born after co-owner Katherine Aurelia O’Dea placed it on a dreamboard more than four years ago.
Just six months later, Mrs O'Dea was signing the business' paperwork and the dream became a reality right on The Esplanade.
“I dreamt of having a business next to the ocean, I prayed about it, and the business was the only thing I put a date on," she said.
"I wanted to have a business by June 2015, we did the dream board in January.
"Lo and behold, in June 2015 we were signing the paperwork.”
Mrs O'Dea already had a successful catering business, which grew from a hobby into something more serious within five years, and knew she needed to expand.
Aurelia's Ice Creamery and Cafe now have 12 staff, working together for the benefit of the business.
“We have about five full-time staff and then we have our juniors on the weekend - and they are just exceptional," Mrs O'Dea said.
"We’re training them up to love what you do and do what you love.
"I like to collaborate with them, listen to what they think would work well for the shop.
"It’s not just our shop, it’s their shop as well."
For Mrs O'Dea, the most rewarding part of her job is the customer service and the fact that she is living her dream.
“For me, the most rewarding part about this is the customers, watching the children’s faces from behind the glass," she said.
"We’re creating magic for them, a memory.
"Look, I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
“I’m doing my dream job and I’m very lucky to have my husband join me in my dream.
“Our two children are helping us, too.
“I don’t do what I do for this [awards].
"I do what I do to help others, that’s what I was put on this earth to do.”
