Esperance men and their families invited to prostate cancer information session

A free and informal prostate cancer information session will be held in Esperance for men, their families and their partners.

The session will start from 5:00pm at the Pier Hotel on Saturday, March 23.

Population Health cancer support nurse Ali Hooper said she had been in her current position for six years and had wanted to establish a prostate cancer support group.

"We have a women’s cancer support group, but nothing for men," she said.

"The session will really be about increasing awareness of prostate cancer for men and then hopefully, on the strength of that, we will get the support group started."

Ms Hooper said there was definitely a lot of interest in the community for a support group.

"We are targeting men over 50, or over 40 if they have a history of prostate cancer," she said.

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia ambassador Greg Kidd and Albany Prostate Cancer Support Group facilitator Colin Mundy will speak at the event.
