State Basketball League club Goldfields Giants visited Esperance on Saturday, February 16, as part of their annual pre-season camp – playing an intra-club match for more than 100 spectators.
The Goldfields Giants brought their new look team boasted by Sudanese-Australian recruit Manylok Malek, South Australian David Humphries and American imports Marquis Salmon and Jay Bowie.
The club arrived from Kalgoorlie mid-morning Saturday before making their way to the Esperance Indoor Sports Stadium where they hosted 40 kids for a free coaching clinic.
Local teens Fraser Randell, Max Witham, Cooper Kennedy and Jarrod Nichol enjoyed the support of the home crowd as they joined the Giants on court.
A recovery session at Twilight Beach rounded out the day for the visitors who returned to Kalgoorlie Sunday morning to continue their preparation for the 2019 season that kicks off on the March long weekend with the pre-season SBL Blitz in Perth.
The following weekend is the Kalgoorlie local league grand final with the official SBL home and away season commencing on the weekend of March 16 and 17 in Perth against Joondalup Wolves and Kalamunda Eastern Suns.
Thank you to the Esperance senior and junior basketball committees for their support and assistance with the event in particular Matt Thornton, Chloe Weckert and Luke Rickerby.
