State Basketball League club Goldfields Giants will be visiting Esperance next weekend for their annual pre-season camp.

This will provide an opportunity for local young basketball players to attend a free coaching clinic.

The Goldfields Giants have been busy in the off season appointing former player Wayne Creek as head coach and recruiting Sudanese-Australian Manylok Malek and American import Marquis Salmon.

In a major coup, the Giants have resigned American import Jay Bowie who was the Giants MVP in 2015.

Bowie has spent the past three seasons with State Basketball League club Willetton Tigers.

Current players Daniel Forlano, Riley Duncan, Jerome Reid, Michael Gardner, Justyn Beattie, Maui Dela Cruz, Ethan McGhie, David Humphries and Dion Gulley have been in pre-season training since December.

Talented Queenslander Brandon Holloway returned to Kalgoorlie in January for his third season with the three big recruits.

He arrived early February in time for the Esperance visit.

The State Basketball League club now boasts three teams with the introduction of the Men’s Division 1 in 2017 and Women’s Division 1 in 2018.

Mining giant Northern Star Resources has been a major sponsors.

The State Basketball League consists of 14 teams.

There are nine Perth based teams plus Mandurah, Rockingham, Geraldton, Bunbury and Kalgoorlie.

The 2019 season commences with the Pre-Season Blitz in Perth on the March long weekend.

The official home and away fixtures get under way with a double-header on the road for the Giants against Joondalup Wolves at HBF Stadium on Saturday March 16 and Kalamunda Eastern Suns at Ray Owen Sports Centre on Sunday March 17.
