Six young sailing enthusiasts from Esperance Bay Yacht Club have travelled to East Fremantle to compete in the 61st Pelican State Championship competition.
The annual state titles were held from January 6 until January 11 and drew 17 boats from across WA.
The sailors of the three dinghies from Esperance competing in the Regatta endured a variety of conditions ranging from 15 to 5 knots of wind, to contending with strong tidal currents and Rottnest Island ferries.
Coach Paul Jefferies said the three boats from Esperance Bay Yacht Club showed continued improvement and determination, with two finishing in the top 10 and several collecting awards.
The Trim - 651, with Samuel Jefferies and Toby Warne, managed to take out sixth place.
The Southern Star 5 - 673, with Lisa Warne and Keira Shipp, was close behind coming in 10th overall.
Skipper Lisa Warne was presented with the endeavour award.
The Sea Breeze - 335, with Connor Maloney and Caleb Shipp, placed 16th.
Connor Maloney also received an encouragement award along with a brand new spinnaker.
Mr Jefferies said the pair worked hard to recover from some bad luck, which included being hit on the start line by a competitor, receiving a disqualification from the Principal race officer and a retirement due to gear breakage.
