It’s our favourite time of the week – a chance to reflect on the changes in Esperance, the faces and the fun that was being had 10 years ago this week.

The BHP exit made headlines in the February 2009 edition after BHP BIlliton announced it would not be offering financial assistance or the housing buyback offer beyond direct employees of the Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation.

Contractors and businesses throughout Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe spoke out about the flow-on effect of the decision.

Then Premier Colin Barnett visited Esperance for a public information forum on the lead cleanup and nickel exports from the Esperance Port.

During the meeting Mr Barnett assured the 200 concerned residents in attendance that the export of nickel through the Esperance Port would cease if it was found to pose a threat to public health.

Talented Esperance netballer Michelle Totterdell was the Sports star of the week.
