Esperance Sport, Year in Review from June to December

Last year saw an incredible amount of local sporting talent on display.

From the Gibson Tiger’s close win over the Esperance Bulldogs in the Esperance District Football Association Grand Final to the deserving winners of the Sports Star Awards, here are some of our favourite Esperance sporting moments from June to December, 2018.

  • More than 90 people attended a special meet and greet with AFL Footy Show host and former football star Sam Newman to raise money for prostate cancer. The Esperance Football Club hosted the event with the football star on Monday evening, July 16, for his first ever visit to the region.
  • The 2018 Southern Ports Tour d’Esperance saw athletes compete on the two biggest days of the local cycling calendar. Nearly 60 cyclists competed through rain and shine in the Tour held on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15.




  • Eight members of Esperance Tennis Club returned home on a high, after a successful trip to Geraldton to compete in the D’Arcy Slater Tournament from October 28-31. 11-year-old Stella Wildberger stoodout, winning the Woman in Foundation Cup trophy in the U 14s with an impressive 6-0 and 6-1.



  • On December 26 Anger Management embarked on the 628-nautical-mile journey in a 44ft Salona Performance Cruiser – the second boat from Esperance to compete.
