More than 1,000 attend Edge of the Bay 2018 | Gallery
More than 1,000 people have attended the Shire’s annual Edge of the Bay festivities on the Esperance Foreshore on Saturday, December 15, with activities for all ages, live music, fitness classes, team sports, and the King of Concrete skate competition.
The Shire extended thanks to competition founder and professional skater Renton Miller for bringing the competition to the region, as well as KyzaPresents for coordinating the music – which included live performances from Rachel Vibart, Campbell Garratt, Steve West and The Billy Baxter Kentet, The Dudas, Hart, and Fremantle five-piece the Hunting Birds.

Talented skaters travelled from across Australia to compete in the competition at Esperance Skatepark Precinct, including renowned skaters Jedd McKenzie, Luke Ward, Zepp Hayes.
Hayes won the Open age category of the competition, with Isi Campbell taking out the Women’s and Under 12.
Zeyke Cook won the Under 16 competition and Zen Evans won the Under 9s.
Mr Miller said the team loved bringing the competition to Esperance and said it was great to see locals amongst those competing.
“King of Concrete Esperance went off,” he said.
“Highlight of the day were Zepp Hayes Combos over the bridge... backside smith grind to tail slide was insane, and he was a worthy winner edging out Sunny Cooke from Margaret river.
“Brendan Cross won highest air for the big boys, and Zeyke won it for the juniors.
“[It] was also rad to see some of the winners of the skate product gave it away to the deserving locals.
“Reese Haslam was shredding and won a big bag of skate merch as the highest placed local.
“We love coming to Esperance, the skatepark is really fun, it’s a beautiful location and the locals are rad.
“Was also great to see a healthy session of girls shredding.”

The competition saw Australian National Team member Liv Lovelace give her best before heading to Brazil in the new year to skate the world championships of street skating.
Last year’s winner, Australian National Skate Team member Jedd McKenzie, sat on the judging panel this year as he recovers from a broken elbow.
Unfavourable weather conditions did not stop a crowd gathering for Zap Circus’ Internationally award-winning Circus Fire Spectacular.
Attendees gasped at the high energy flame show with duo Tarrabelle Murphy and Rusty Hammond performing acrobatics tricks.
Shire President Victoria Brown extended thanks to those involved for helping to bring the event to life.
“Thank you to the people who came out to enjoy the activities, the guests who entertained us, the competitors, the sponsors and the team who have worked hard behind the scenes for the last few months to make the weekend a success,” she said.
The all-inclusive, all ages, alcohol-free event is supported by the Shire of Esperance, the Esperance Civic Centre, Healthway, Horizon Power, Southern Ports Authority, Kyza Presents, Lotterywest, King of Concrete, Shredability, the Road Safety Commission, Make Smoking History, and the state government.
