Community members are being encouraged to dig deep this Christmas, in support of local families in need.

Escare have joined with Target and community service provider, UnitingCare, to collect donated Christmas presents and distribute them throughout the community.

Escare youth worker and local Christmas Appeal coordinator Linda Tobin said Escare had partnered for 20 years with the local Uniting Church to distribute presents to families.

“As the church locally has found it more difficult due to their aging population, UnitingCare and Target have asked Escare to continue that local coordination," she said.

Those who want to donate have until Christmas Eve.

Gifts, either from Target or elsewhere, can be brought into Target or to Escare.

All gifts will be going to local families.

Monetary donations can also be made at Target, which will go to the WA UnitingCare Christmas Appeal.

Mrs Tobin said families in need would be given an opportunity they otherwise would not have, if it weren’t for the appeal.

“Christmas is about family, enjoyment and the gift of giving,” she said.

“There are families in need in our community that would wake up on Christmas morning without a gift.”

Mrs Tobin said Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School also had a Christmas tree at their school and had been donating gifts for children, which will join in with the appeal.
