More than 100 people poured through the doors of the Cannery Arts Centre for the biennial 9x5 Art Auction fundraiser on Sunday afternoon, December 2.
Ninety-five artists donated more than 130 artworks for the live auction in the main gallery, an event that has been run by the centre over the last 25 years.
The doors to the exhibition and silent auction opened on November 18 and, according to the Cannery’s management, received a lot positive feedback.
Cannery Arts Centre co-manager Shannan Gillespie said the exhibit had had the most silent bidding action she had ever seen at a 9x5 event, a testament to the standard of works submitted.
Cannery Arts Centre vice chairperson Jessica Ricciardo extended thanks to the Shire of Esperance, the artists who put their time and skills to work for the centre, to Rob Maley, Florissons Home Furnishings, Tatey’s Fishing World and the centre’s volunteers.
Mrs Ricciardo also thanked Neil Brindley, who put his hand up to be the auctioneer.
The total funds raised will go towards core funding for the centre and annual arts program.
The next exhibit will be Flotsam & Jetsam, running from December 14 until February 3, with artists exhibiting works inspired by flotsam and jetsam found along the region’s beaches.
