An Esperance man has been arrested and charged with unlawful wounding after allegedly stabbing a 48-year-old man in the hand with a steak knife at The Travellers Inn in Castletown on Saturday, November 3.

Esperance Detectives said the pair, who were not known to each other, were seated close to each other at the front bar around 8.20pm when an argument ensued.

It is alleged the accused reached over and took the man’s steak knife from his dinner plate before stabbing him in the hand.

Detectives said a physical altercation then took place.

The victim, who was originally from Esperance but currently resides elsewhere, was taken to Esperance Hospital for treatment.

The accused was arrested at the scene and the knife was seized.

The man is expected to appear in Esperance Magistrates Court on Wednesday, November 21.
