Eight members of Esperance Tennis Club are set to return home on a high, after a very successful trip to Geraldton to compete in the D’Arcy Slater Tournament from October 28-31.
The team are the first to be sent from the region for the annual tournament and Coach Darren Foss said the players performed unbelievably and came away with great results.
Eleven year old Stella Wildberger was a standout, winning the Woman in Foundation Cup trophy in the under 14s with an impressive 6-0 and 6-1.
Will Wildberger and Ben Haclin also performed very well in what Mr Foss described as an epic final.
“The kids have loved it,” Mr Foss said.
“These tournaments are hugely important as these are country kids that don’t necessarily attend these tournaments or have these opportunities regularly.
“The standard of tennis is really good, too.
“These kids have played some really impressive tennis over the four days and they make new friends and enjoy themselves.
“She [Stella] had a tough match in the semis and absolutely smashed it.
“It was the most impressive tennis I’ve seen her play.”
The Club held a series of fundraisers in the lead up to the tournament to help support the team.
