The Esperance Volunteer Junior Fire and Rescue Service have hosted a Junior Fire Brigade Competition in Esperance, with teams travelling from Coolgardie, North Kalgoorlie and Kambalda to compete.
The teams gathered early on Sunday, October 21, in weather conditions Rescue Service Brian Willoughby described as perfect for competing.
It was Esperance who were successful in winning both the Junior and Sub Junior section of the competition, which was conducted over an 11 event program.
Kambalda presented an almost brand new team and ran well considering their short training period.
The competition was the first for the Goldfields Zone this season and provided an opportunity for the coaches to gauge just how well their teams were performing.
The next meeting will be the Goldfields Zone Championships in Kalgoorlie on Sunday, November 4.
The teams will then battle it out at the State Championships, travelling all the way to Fremantle from Saturday, November 24, until Sunday, November 25.
Mr Willoughby said the event saw a pleasing turnout, with more than 100 competitors and spectators on the track.
Coaches Harry Moir and Brian Willoughby said they were extremely pleased with their team effort and congratulated all the other teams on the standard of competition.
The Esperance Volunteer Junior Fire and Rescue Service will host a Pancake and BBQ at Barbeques Galore this Saturday, October 27, to raise funds for their trip to the 2018 Junior Volunteer Fire Brigade State Championships.
Attendees can take a photo in the vintage Fire Engine and join in all the fun and games for a gold coin donation.
