Solar-powered benches installed on Esperance foreshore

Four new Steora Smart solar-powered benches have been installed at locations across the Esperance foreshore, allowing people to charge their devices wirelessly free of charge.

The benches, made possible by the support of Southern Ports, Horizon Power, Cliffs and the Shire of Esperance, are completely weather and vandal-resistant and powered by renewable solar energy.

Each bench features a design by Function Creative detailing the region's iconic assets including Frenchman’s Peak and Lake Hillier as well as the annual whale migration along the coastline.

The benches have been installed at locations chosen by the Esperance Youth Advisory Council, along the path at the Jetty Headland, adjacent to the playground at James Street and two at the skatepark.

Compatible devices can be charged wirelessly and some require a USB charging cable.

Acting Shire President Natalie Bowman said the benches complimented the free wifi recently installed by the shire throughout the town centre.

“You can make sure you don’t run out of power on the go with these solar charging benches that have been installed along the foreshore and at the skatepark,” she said.

“These benches will complement the free wifi already available so make sure you tag #visitesperance in your posts!”

The shire extended thanks to Southern Ports, Horizon Power and Cliffs, for their commitment to this project and said it was a great example of community partnerships delivering services to the community.
