Esperance mourns loss of Kaitlyn Scott

The Esperance community are in mourning following the tragic death of 16 year-old Kaitlyn Scott.

A nineteen year-old male was charged with manslaughter on Saturday, August 11 after he allegedly hit a group of three pedestrians including Kaitlyn in Monjingup.

Kaitlyn was taken to Esperance Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

An 18 year-old male and an 18 year-old female were also treated for minor injuries.  

Kaitlyn’s mother ‎Cassandra Eccles‎ posted on the Esperance Name and Fame Facebook Page thanking her daughter’s friends. 

“I would like to name and fame Kaitlyn’s friends that were there for her this morning,” her post read.

“You all did your best and that’s all we can hope for. Emergency services doctors and nurses at the hospital we know everyone worked so hard to save our girl and we appreciate it.”

A Go Fund Me page was set up hours after news of the incident to raise money for the Scott family, with a fundraising goal of $10,000.

The page raised nearly $8000 as of publication. 

Friends and family paid their respect, place flowers and cards along Davis Road.
