Escare is hosting two free Wiring Kids workshops for parents of young children.
A session on ‘Fears, Worries and Anxiety in Early Childhood’ will be held on Wednesday, June 20 at the Lotteries House from 6.30pm to 8.30pm
A ‘Building Strong Resilient Children’ session will then be held on Thursday, June 21 at the George Street Centre, on the corner of George and Backland Street from 10:00am to midday.
Wiring Kids facilitator Wendy Muller said the workshops would provide practical tips for parents which would also benefit their children.
“We know from research if parents are knowledgeable and confident in their parenting ability, it makes them feel better about parenting and that flows on to kids,” she said.
“I go around the room and ask ‘what is the one thing you are hoping to take away’, and then I tailor the workshop to try and cover as many of the parent’s concerns as possible.”
Ms Muller said the workshops were interactive and involved parents sharing experiences and information.
“Parents have a lot of wisdom themselves, so they will share their successes as well as their challenges and that way we all learn from each other,” she said.
Ms Muller said although every child developed differently, the workshops were generally designed for children up to 10 years of age.
