The Esperance Volunteer Resource Centre is celebrating the work of volunteers and attempting to boost volunteer numbers for groups throughout the community.
Volunteer Week, starting Monday, May 21 and concluding Sunday, May 27, celebrates all volunteers from sporting clubs volunteers to volunteer ambulance officers.
The Resource Centre will host a Morning Tea on Tuesday, May 22 at the Library between 10:00am and 11:30am.
The tea is open to all volunteers but there is a limit on numbers and an RSVP, to the Volunteer Resource, is necessary by Thursday, May 17.
The Resource Centre will then host a ‘Sundowner’ on Friday, May 25 at the Emergency Services Co-Location on Brazier Street between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
Esperance Volunteer Resource Centre coordinator Erica Austen said the Sundowner would include burgers and mocktails.
RSVP for the Sundowner is required by Monday, May 21.
Ms Austen said the Week was held to recognise the work of volunteers and encourage potential volunteers to make the ‘first step’.
“There are a lot of organisations which are purely volunteer run or rely on volunteers to maintain their services,” she said.
“To keep the rosters filled we need more people to come in.”
The Resource Centre has also put ‘painted volunteers’ around town as a quirky way to promote Volunteer Week and remind the community about the work of volunteers.
