Esperance Family History Society making moves

The Esperance Family History Society has officially moved into its new location in the Esperance Museum, with more than 24 people attending the opening ceremony on March 17.

Established in 1984, the group are the region’s local Branch of the Western Australian Genealogical Society.

The group currently has 28 members, a number Family History Society librarian Daphne Diack said could grow as a result of the move in location.

“Some of our previous members have said they would rejoin us in the new location,” she said.

“We did have a feeling that would happen so that has been very encouraging.”

Previously based on the mezzanine floor of the Esperance Public Library, the Society made the move to provide better access for elderly members of the group.

With an average of 20 clients a year, Ms Diack said clients were always very grateful for the service provided.

“It’s very rewarding connecting people, connecting families,” she said.
