Esperance Tennis Club Tournament success

More than 170 of the state’s best players gathered at the Esperance Tennis Club over the long weekend to participate in the annual March Open.

Tournament organiser Dave Greatrex said the outstanding tennis, perfect weather and the Club’s renowned hospitality all combined to make the 2018 event one of the best.

“We had hundreds of people come through the Esperance Tennis club over the weekend, to participate in and watch some really outstanding tennis, and enjoy our famous hospitality,” he said.

“This event does Esperance proud.”

Local players fared well, with Alex Baxter and Shane Spengler winning the second division Men’s Doubles.

Eadie Barrett was runner up in the U12’s consolation final and William Wildberger reached the main draw U12’s quarter finals, going down to the eventual winner, number 1 seed Cristian Care.

Top Perth player Alex Downey took out The Australian Money Tour Men’s Singles Event.

The Women’s event was won by number two seed Talia Gibson, who defeated top seed Lexie Weir.

The Women’s final saw Julie and Nicky Kirkup edge out Tash Macarthy and Sam Stubna.
