The once every second year Grass Patch Yabby Classic competition will be held on Saturday March 17, 2018.
Yabby Classic committee member Aneka Marshman said there were several competitions including the yabby races, with cash prizes for the winners.
“Five or six yabbies race and everyone bets on them,” she said.
“There’s a competition for the heaviest five yabbies, the longest yabby and the yabby with the longest claw.
“Then we have a competition for who can peel the fastest in one minute.”
Ms Marshman said the event started at 2pm and the cut-off time for entering yabbies was strictly 4pm.
She said past years had seen up to 500 people in attendance.
“We are hoping to land between 300 and 400 people.”
The day will also feature a cheesecake competition, with four people being picked randomly from the crowd to judge the best cake.
“Then we eat the cheesecakes for sweets,” Ms Marshman said.
The Yabby Classic will feature gourmet barbecue yabbies, pickled yabbies, a spit roast, tea and salad.
Children’s activities will include face painting, pony rides and a merry-go-round.
