THE Goldfields Zone of the Volunteer Fire Brigade held a picnic competition in Kalgoorlie on Sunday, February 4 attended by teams from Coolgardie, South Kalgoorlie, North Kalgoorlie and Esperance Brigades.

In a keenly fought competition in warm conditions Esperance Brigade claimed victory with an overall point score of 34 from South Kalgoorlie with 25, North Kalgoorlie with 17 and Coolgardie with 11 points.

Champion Fireman on the day was Dean Lawson from South Kalgoorlie on nine points closely followed by Braden Shilton from Coolgardie with eight points and James Cable from North Kalgoorlie with seven points..

At the presentations the coach’s from all teams agreed the day was a good competition considering all the brigades were early into their season training. Association secretary Ross McKenzie acknowledged the participation of ex junior members in the competition which is a great indicator for the future of the championships.
