Despite a rather dreary start to the day, it appeared no amount of rain could put a damper on Race Day at the Esperance Bay Turf Club on Saturday, February 17.
Turf club president Ken Norton said it was a brilliant day of racing, with more than 350 people in attendance.
“It was a great day and a great lead up to the Esperance Cup,” he said.
Heavy rain and cloud cover subsided just minutes before the first race began.
The day’s events began with the 1200 metre, with Prince Hal and jockey Simone Altieri taking out the opening race.
Race number two saw Jimmy Rapid and jockey Matthieu Autier take out the 1600 metre.
Jockey Matthieu Autier scored yet another win, with Blackbeel dominating the third race with the 1600 metre.
Mr Autier’s winning streak continued, taking out his third consecutive race with Universal Mae.
Race number five saw Senorita Bonita and jockey Kate Witten win the 1200 metre.
Omerta and jockey Mitchell Pateman went on to win the 1200 metre race.
Race number seven saw jockey Matthieu Autier take out his fourth win of the day, after Swift Sis won the 1100 metre.
The final race of the day was taken out by Rhino Buster and jockey Andrew Castle, winning the 2000 metre.
Esperance Bay Turf Club extended thanks to the event’s sponsors for their support.
