A woman believed to be in her 50s has had a lucky escape after being pulled from a rip at West Beach on Thursday, February 15.
Around 2:15pm, Spanish tourist Tomas Riano paddled around the reef to put the woman onto his board.
“We just arrived at the car park and we saw a person in the current,” he said
“At first, I thought they knew what they were doing but then a woman ran from the beach to us freaking out asking for help saying she was drowning.
“Then we got the surf board and brought her in.”
Mr Riano escaped with minor injuries, suffering only a cut to his foot.
He said the woman did not speak English.
Esperance Police and St John Ambulance both attended the scene and the woman was taken away for further observation.
