Award winning guitarist Tom Curtain will arrive in Esperance to perform on Saturday, February 10.
Mr Curtain will visit the town as part of his southern tour, after taking his Katherine Outback Experience show on the road.
After going to the Northern Territory to muster cattle in 2001, Mr Curtain said he had little to distract him and he began to write music.
“Something inspired me to start writing music,” he said.
“An old bloke gave me a guitar and showed me a few chords and every night I used to practice around the camp fire and write songs out there.
Releasing his first album just three years later, Mr Curtain’s new found love of music sent him travelling to produce his second album.
The first single from his Territory Time album, ‘Never Never Land’, debuted at number one on the iTunes Country Albums Chart.
Mr Curtain said he received a phone call from his publicist at 3am in the morning with the news.
“It scared the heck out of me, I didn’t even know what iTunes was,” he said.
“It’s been pretty well received, which is awesome.
“I’m honestly just really grateful that the music is getting out there and that I am travelling parts of Australia that I’ve never even been to and people are singing my songs.
“It’s pretty mind-blowing.”
With the first half of the show consisting of Mr Curtain’s other passion, horse breaking and animal psychology, he said the performance is ‘something unique’.
“It explores gaining the horses trust in order to ride it,” he said.
“For the last 20 years I have been training horses and so we’ve combined that element, as well as training working dogs.
“It’s not really a ‘polished’ show, it’s really about showing the audience how we deal with the horses and dogs we train.”
Mr Curtain said he loved travelling to region parts of Australia and meeting with people across the country.
“For me, every town that we go to is quite a buzz because they’re all so different,” he said.
“The more I get to travel around this great country, the more inspired I am.”
Tom Curtain will perform at Esperance Showgrounds Pavilion on Saturday, February 10, from 7.30pm.
