SOME very good bowls were played over the weekend of November 25 and 26 at the Kojonup Bowling Club with some outstanding results.
The aggregate scores tied for three games which is a record for this event.
At the end of four rounds, three sides could have won the event with the final game being the contest between Upper Great Southern, South East Coastal and Lower Great Southern, with the two latter teams playing each other.
What a nail biter this turned out to be, with the result coming down to the last bowl being played and the aggregate score.
Helen Perks and Rachel Young got away to a great start but their opponents caught up and got in front.
However Helen and Rachael both playing great last bowls got three on the last end and won their game by one shot and one rink win.
Coral Grant and Jill Burnside were having a great tussle but lost their game, Trish Stone and Marg Hesford were also battling.
Jan Fiegert and Fran Norwood picked up a six on the 12th end to put SECBL one shot in front on the aggregate.
Trish and Marg lost three on the last end in their game and SECBL were behind.
With the final result resting on the last end on the last rink and the head changing as each bowl was played Jan Fiegert played a great last bowl to get two shots winning 25-5.
This bought the aggregate to 50-50 with two rink wins each.
This score added to previous rounds found SECBL ½ rink win in front which gave them the shield for the first time in four years.
Also, congratulations to Helen Perks and Rachael Young who won all of their games and were selected to represent SECBL in the IZRR Pairs which will be played at the Wickepin Bowling Club over February 17 and 18 next year.
SECBL: 7 points, 11 rink wins; LGS: 7 points, 10 ½ rink wins; GS: 5 points, 11 ½ rink wins; CS: 5 points, 8 ½ rink wins; Arunga: 4 points, 13 ½ rink wins; UGS: 2 points, 5 rink wins.
