Shire of Esperance focus on waste education

The Shire of Esperance is set to implement a Waste Education Strategy as early as next year, following discussions at council this week.

Shire chief executive officer Matthew Scott said he hoped the education strategy could be implemented once the current draft waste strategy was endorsed by council.

“If we can educate the community about what they can actually keep, reuse or recycle, that means less waste going into landfill,” he said.

Shire president Victoria Brown said council wanted to ‘keep the ball rolling’.

“We are focused on drastically reducing the amount of landfill that goes to our waste facility,” she said.

“This was one way we could ensure that we keep the ball rolling and keep our community educated.”
