Kambalda Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service hosted the Goldfields Zone Junior Fire Brigade Championships in Kambalda on Sunday, November 10.
The weather tested the competitors and the judges with a 35-degree morning followed by a dust storm and then wind gusts and rain.
But resilient as always, the juniors completed the entire program.
Teams from Southern Cross, Kambalda, Coolgardie, South Kalgoorlie, North Kalgoorlie and Esperance battled all day for the winner’s trophy.
Overall winner was the Esperance brigade with 138 points, from North Kalgoorlie second with 84 points and Kambalda third with 79 points.
Champion fireman was a close fought affair with a tie for the Junior Champion title between Donald Kiripatea, from Esperance, and Jayden Forward, from Coolgardie, on eight points each, followed by Aden Close, from Esperance, with seven.
Sub Junior Champion was Reggie Stacey, from Esperance, with 14 points followed by Ben Shaw, from North Kalgoorlie, with eight points and Joe Money, from Coolgardie, with seven.
Coach Brian Willoughby said he was pleased with the results and applauded the overall standard of the competition from all brigades.
The zone should be well represented at the State Junior Fire Brigade Championships to be held in Fremantle this weekend, November 24-25.
Coach Willoughby also congratulated Kambalda VFRS members on running a problem-free professional championship.
