Local students head to Australasian Pacific finals for Tournament of Minds

Esperance Senior High School students are set to compete in the Australasian Pacific finals for Tournament of Minds this week.

Students Jack Hughes, Sam Jefferies, Jesse Marshall, Hudson Staer, Sammy Ryan-Galloway, Meg Baker and Kalira Docherty, along with facilitators Lois Saunders and Jazmin Parker, will be travelling to Adelaide for the finals of the competition after winning their division at the state final in Perth last month.

The critical and creative thinking competition, held on October 26, encourages students to present a solution to a spontaneous puzzle before a judging panel following a three-hour challenge.

The competition fosters teamwork, problem-solving, communication and cooperation skills.

In preparation for the event, the school will host a quiz night next weekend as a fundraiser for the participating team.

The Tournament of the Minds quiz night will be held at the Civic Centre on November 4 at 6pm.

The quiz will financially support the team of seven secondary students who are competing against teams from each Australian state, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Africa and Uganda in Adelaide.

Tickets for the quiz night are available from the Esperance Senior High School front office.
