WHERE else would you have rather been last Sunday than enjoying the best of what Esperance has to offer? Well seven boats and 21 anglers made use of good sea conditions while escaping the heat on the mainland. This certainly made it a comfortable voyage to the various fishing areas and all species were caught. Nigel Worth had a day out nearly catching the full book. He was able to net 13 of the 15 species plus landing the heaviest fish being a 22.82 kilogram samson fish.
The champion male for the venue is a battle between Nigel and Ricky Grant who also caught a number of species. There was no ladies who fished the venue and Taj Tate was champion junior. The champion boat is still being calculated, however it will be a close affair between Ricky Grant and Nigel Worth as well.
The heaviest fish weighed in was a 22.82kg samson fish caught by Nigel Worth. The multiple species winners were: Nigel Worth – samson fish, skipjack and swallowtail; Ricky Grant - heaviest harlequin, squid and sweep; Paul Berk - heaviest herring, leatherjacket and queen snapper; Danny Yurkovich – heaviest red snapper and snook; and Mick Hayden – heaviest wrasse and sand whiting. Other winners: Lenny Ferguson – heaviest breaksea cod; and Rob Young – heaviest flathead.
The Tatey’s Tackleworld 50-point jackpot species being the heaviest King George whiting was won by Taj Tate, picking up a $20 voucher. Next month’s bonus fish is a shark. Winners of the money wheel were Paul Berk twice, Mick Hayden and Nigel Worth. The mug of the month was Danny Yurkovich who picked up a $20 voucher from Southern Sports and Tackle.
Don’t forget it is only 22 weeks before the 2018 EDSAC Offshore Classic so make sure you get your leave pass from your partner and of course you will need a new fishing rod and reel from one of the club’s sponsors for Christmas. The next fish and chip night will be on November 10 with doors opening at 6.30pm. Remember if you are bringing a crowd make sure you bring along extra salads to share. Calm seas and great fishing.
