Community members wanting to make a difference in times of need have been urged to consider volunteering with the Esperance Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service.
Captain Sunnie Fissioli said the local crew had recently taken on new members and would like to maintain and build on that recruitment achievement.
“We are currently looking at recruiting a few more members before the busy season starts,” he said.
“So this way people could be trained in time to attend upcoming incidents.”
Mr Fissioli said the group was looking to recruit volunteers of any experience level.
“With our recruitment, that can actually go anywhere from adminstration duties, communications, they could jump right in – we can do training with them and they become fully qualified firefighters as well,” he said.
“If you can volunteer a lot of your time, excellent. If you can only volunteer a little bit of your time that’s exceelent as well.”
Mr Fissioli said the group were involved in activities ranging from school visits and fire safety talks, all the way to dangerous fire response.
“Last year we had 124 calls for the year, and most of them were quite serious ones, so it was quite a big year for us,” he said.
