Esperance Bulldogs top pick ahead of Esperance District Football Association's grand final

Dominate force in our local league competition, Esperance Bulldogs remain hot favourites ahead of the highly anticipated grand final this weekend.

The showdown will see Ports Blues take on the Bulldogs at Newtown-Condingup Oval on Saturday, September 2 at 2:15pm.

The Blues looked an unlikely contender to compete in the final clash, but a win last week against second on the ladder Gibson Tigers secured their spot.

The Blues had the game in their hands in the first quarter of the preliminary final, remaining a score ahead of the Tigers throughout the game.

After the final whistle the score was Tigers 5.12-42 to Blues 9.6-60.

The loss must have been hard to swallow for the Tigers, as they were defeated on home turf. The Tigers also had a point to prove after a loss in last year’s grand final.

Players to watch in the grand final will be Blues young-gun Isaac Buckley who claimed the Freddy Curnow Memorial Medal for being footballer of the year and Bulldogs player Richard Bourne, who was named 2017 Hepburn Medallist.

Despite the clear skies and sunny conditions in Esperance at the start of the week, tomorrow’s game is expected to be flagged with a low of six degrees and top of 14 degrees.

Possible thunderstorms and a 90 per cent chance of rain have also been predicted.

Good luck to all teams!
