Seven hundred yards was well represented with the best field for some time at the Esperance Rifle Club.

Fifteen members were present in what looked like great conditions.

A gentle breeze with dull sighting to raise the challenge for the competitors 700 yards is the most difficult range as the view of the range is well above the wind flags and needs massive concentration to pick all the changes.

Mike Henley was the best with an overall score of 116.11 in F Standard.

The surprise packet of Rene Drew with his first effort score of 59.2 and followed with 53.4 had the new shooter in second position with an aggregate score of 112.6 for third time at the range.

A fantastic effort for Drew at the most difficult range.

Third place went to Terry Neville with a score of 111.6.

Jim Dunne returned a score of 107.4 then Ellen Moffat had 105.3.

On target one and two the sensor on the electronic target had been compromised with a damaged wire resulting in some inconsistent shots.

Unfortunately Ellen had to accept a score one for one of her shots.

FTR Division saw Michelle Hurley claim the top spot with 112.5 followed by Mike Henley scoring 110.2 and Errol Wishart also with 110.2 in third place.

F Open had Raymond Hurley top rifle scoring 114.7 followed by Adrian Moffat with 110.5 and John Stuart third with 106.5.

Graham Donovan had scores in the target rifle section 48.3 and 49.6 and Ray Hurley scored 34 and a much improved 42 his second time down.

Target rifle use open iron sights and support the rifle with a sling to pull the rifle into their shoulder to steady the aim.

Target rifle maximum scores can only be 50 plus V bulls while F Class rifle have a maximum of 60 plus X counts.

Our lone black powder member Patrick Wrigley is enjoying his best season ever and shot over the short range with scores 94 each effort returning him a total score of 188 and a handicap score of 102 winning the day from Mike Henley 101 and Jim Dunne and Errol Wishart locked together with 100 each.

The best two score from the last three ranges saw Ray Hurley win scoring 199, Michelle Hurley 2nd with 198 and Graham Donovan & Adrian Moffat equal scores of 196 were 3rd.

Next Saturday will see the start at 300 yards at 1.30 p.m.

Visitors are welcome at the Connolly St rifle range.

See you on the mound.
