Esperance police charge driver with multiple offences

Esperance Police charged a driver with multiple offences after targeted patrols of disqualified drivers.

On Thursday August 10, police saw a Suzuki panel van on Dempster Street which was being driven by a person known to police as a re-offending drug driver.

The driver was also believed to have a court suspended driver’s license.

Police stopped the driver and did an oral fluid swipe test which he allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

The vehicle was searched and police located about four grams of cannabis which was seized.

The offender’s vehicle was seized and impounded for 28 days and the driver taken to Esperance Station for a drug test which allegedly provided another positive result for methamphetamine.

The offender is expected to be charged with no authority to drive (suspended), possession of a prohibited drug (cannabis) and drug driving on if a positive analysis from further testing is received from the Chemistry Centre – WA.
