THE rain stayed away for the South East Runners’ event last Saturday, but conditions were cool and wintry - ideal for good run times. The start venue was Twilight Beach, with a hilly course of either two kilometres, 4km or 8km.
The Maccan siblings were very impressive in the 8km run event, with Zoe taking out first place with a 4.07 per kilometre pace, and Adam finishing second with a pace of 4.25. The senior runners were a little further back, with Pam Williams in third, and Howard Reddyhough in fourth place.
Jamie Toll edged out Richard Brown to take the line honours in the 4km run, with Donna Maccan finishing third.
Crossing the line first overall in the 2km run event was promising young runner Nathan Cassam. Nathan was very pleased to pick up the number one card on the day. In second place was Rowan Spittle, who had his first outing with the club since recently returning to Esperance. Third place went to Abbie Cassam.
The Cassam family continued the good work with Chris taking out first place in the 2km walk, and Leanne finishing second. In third place was Eli Jefferies. There were just two takers for the 4km walk, with Maureen Dickason finishing ahead of Lance Williams.
Next weekend’s event is back to the foreshore, with the start venue at the Whale Tail. Distances on offer are 2km, 4km or 8km.
