Shark detection receivers deployed to Esperance after Laeticia Brouwer's shark attack

Two shark detection receivers will be deployed to Esperance in the wake of the fatal attack, that sadly claimed the life of 17-year-old Laeticia Brouwer.

The Mandurah teenager was attacked while surfing with her father near Wylie Bay, during the Easter break.

Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly revealed the new multi-faceted shark mitigation strategy that included two receivers for Esperance which will detect tagged sharks, in an announcement made on the weekend.

“In light of recent incidents, we are extending our shark monitoring network to Esperance through the deployment of two real time shark detection receivers,” he said.
